Bon Secours National Wildlife Refuge encompasses 7,000 acres of wildlife habitat. Bon Secours is a refuge for migratory birds nesting on Alabama Beach, sea turtles, and the endangered mouse.

The preserve was established by Congress in 1980 to preserve the coastal ecosystem, protect endangered species, provide recreational opportunities, and serve as a living laboratory for students and scientists.

Bon Secours means “safe harbor” in French. A very appropriate name for a haven for local flora and fauna! The dunes of the Alabama Coast are reminiscent of the Gulf Coast that once existed. This unique place is considered one of Alabama’s 10 natural wonders.

Compared to most national wilderness areas, Bon Secours is small and includes five separate wilderness areas in Baldwin County and Mobile County, Alabama. A fully staffed park consists of three units, but numerous dedicated volunteers assist the park throughout the year. Bon Secours National Wildlife Refuge receives more than 100,000 visitors each year.

More than 370 species of birds have been identified (identified) by sanctuary staff during migration seasons. The largest are usually ospreys and several species of herons. Seven hummingbird species have also been seen. Mammals such as red foxes, American wolves and armadillos are also present.

The Angeles National Wildlife Refuge stretches along all the suburbs north of the city of Los Angeles, including Glendora. It was officially incorporated on July 1, 1908. Much of the preserve is covered in dense shrubbery, replaced by coniferous and oak forests as it rises above sea level. It covers about 2,700 square kilometers. The Angeles National Wildlife Refuge is home to ancient relict plants such as Douglas fir and California walnut. You can also find Yellow Pine, White Fir, Twisted Pine, and other endangered conifers on the preserve.

There are five sandbars in the Angeles National Wildlife Refuge, the most famous of which is Cucamonga Wilderness, which is about 200 square meters in size. In August 2009, there was a terrible fire that engulfed an area of 650 square kilometers. It lasted about a month, as a result charred a quarter of the plantation and suffered many animals. Currently, there are about 22 species of plants and 23 species of fauna in the Angeles National Wildlife Refuge, 16 of which are considered endangered.

Point Lobos Reserve is unusual in that in addition to a large area of land, it also includes a large part of the ocean coast and the ocean itself. It was its Pacific landscapes that inspired Robert Lewis Stevenson’s book Treasure Island. The ecological reserve appeared here in the 1970s and is a specially protected area because of the sea lion population and the migration point of gray whales.

Almost half of the reserve’s surface is underwater. Extensive forests of seaweed grow here and are home to sea otters. For tourists will be attractive small coves with beaches, in which, however, sometimes rest sea lions. From the high rocky shoreline offers an impressive view of the Pacific Ocean.

The reserve has fairly strict rules of conduct for visiting tourists. On the few trails, you can move only at a speed of no more than 25 km / h, and to stop the car must be in specially designated places. Smoking is practically prohibited, with limited permits only in parking lots.

Point Lobos Preserve is open every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., but due to the limited number of visitors, it is better to come here in the morning to devote a few days to excursions.

Katmai National Park Reserve is located in the state of Alaska, USA. The Arctic territory around the Katmai Stratovolcano of the same name was placed under state protection after the corresponding document was signed by the U.S. Congress in December 1980.

The national park occupies the entire coastline of the Shelikhov Strait, the Aleutian Peninsula, and part of the territory north of Lake Nanek.

The main character of the reserve is a majestic active volcano, on the left slope of which a glacier is situated. The height of the volcano is more than 2000 meters and its diameter is 10 km. During the last and most violent eruption in 1912 a volcanic lake with cloudy green water was formed. The same eruption destroyed the pine forest on the western slope of the volcano, turning it into a valley of a thousand smokes, which are fountains of red-hot steam and gases.

The Brooks River beckons tourists every year who long to see the thrilling and fascinating spectacle of brown bear fishing. Alaska is home to the largest population of these animals in the world.
